Although some of these products really work, it is no surprise that the some chemical content still may pose danger to the body.
Skin care products are known to contain a lot of chemicals, not just to protect the skin, but to make it still effective for a long period of time. Though there are a lot of safe chemical content in these products, there are still a number of chemicals that harm the skin more than doing any good to it. Here are some of these chemicals that you should check on your skincare products.
We know lead as a very harmful chemical found in milk, toys, and other tools, but lead is also found in your cosmetic products such as lipstick and foundation. It is found in lipsticks because it makes the color more vibrant. Lead is a neurotoxin which reduced fertility, delayed puberty, and even linked to miscarriage on women. It could also strengthen the stress hormones in your body.
It is a group of chemicals that are used as preservatives in the cosmetic and skincare products. This type of chemical is widely-used in the industries because it is so much cheaper than other preservative chemicals in the market. It is reported that parabens displayed estrogenic activity in chemical tests. Estrogen kindles breast cancer and hormonal imbalance for women, and may cause sterility in males.
Mineral Oil is another form of preservative of cosmetic products. The skin doesn’t absorb oil, that’s why it stays on the surface of the skin, clogging the pores. It causes breakouts, skin irritations, and lose the skin’s moisture.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or SLS is mostly found in your shampoos, facial cleanser, and body wash; but it could also be found on car washes, floor cleaners, and engine degreasers. This ingredient can cause premature skin aging, skin irritation, skin inflammation, and eye damage.
Most women prefer to use scented skincare products, but the chemical ingredient that makes it smell good, may do harm on your skin. Most of these ingredients are made from petroleum or coal that causes skin irritations. Although most of the products today use natural scents, there are still a lot that uses the synthetic ones since they cost much cheaper.
With these ingredients and its harmful effect on your skin, it can be seen that not everything is safe on your skin. When choosing your skincare product, you must read first the label before purchasing it. It is best to invest time on reading rather than being sorry on its future effect on your skin.
