A few days before Christmas Day, when the world was busy trying to #FindIca, the NCCC Mall in Davao was on fire. It was heartbreaking to see.
However, in the midst of the unfortunate event, two heroes arose and tried to save lives of their co-workers. Melvin Gaa, an employee of NCCC mall, was reportedly seen saving other people trapped in the mall after a fire broke out on December 24, 2017.
Melvin Gaa, an employee of NCCC mall, was reportedly seen saving other people trapped in the mall after a fire broke out on December 24, 2017.
Sunstar Davao reported that Gaa was a member of the NCCC Emergency Action Team (NEAT) who helped other people in the fire incident.
Furthermore, his colleagues were shocked to know that he was one of the casualties as they found him safe and sound outside when the management asked to vacate the building. Unfortunately, her wife was able to identify his body, according to NCCC Mall spokesperson Thea Padua.
The spokesperson confirmed via Sunstar Davao that Melvin “had already brought down several SSI employees and was already seen having safely exited the building at the ground floor. But instead of remaining downstairs, he went upstairs again to try and save more people.”
Padua added, “we offer his family our sympathies and recognize with deepest gratitude Melvin’s sacrifice.”
True to her role as a supervisor in SSI, Alexandra Moreno was also a hero of the NCCC fire incident.
According to SunStar Davao, Moreno was a QA Supervisor at SSI and one of the 38 confirmed casualties. of the NCCC Mall Davao fire incident. The survivors recalled and described her as “asthmatic” but despite sickness, she managed to help co-workers find their way out safely. Sadly, she wasn’t able to make it.
On SunStar Davao’s Facebook post, they captioned that according to her father, George Moreno, Alexandra’s phone was still ringing at 12 noon. But the phone couldn’t be reached any more hours later.
I’ve always believed that there are angels and (super) heroes on earth. And Melvin and Alexandra were one of them. We’ve heard the adage that “there’s a reason for everything.” These are the moments we couldn’t comprehend why it happened.
From loveit.ph, our deepest sympathies to the families of the incident.
